People keep telling us what a good idea our e-Wheels is. Yesterday two people came up from London to film us in freezing weather. By 4pm, after 6 hours of standing around in a bitterly cold north wind, there was slightly less of the warm glow of satisfaction left but still pride in what we have achieved. So far we have provided over 100 hours of free non-polluting transport to people indeed in our community, referred to us by local agencies. The demand is growing.
The fact that the transport is free is very important. One person, for example, living in a small hamlet not well served by public transport has been able to get to a long sequence of appointments at the surgery, the dentist and the hospital. Without our help this would have been totally unaffordable for her. And our volunteer drivers have done it without polluting the environment in our very modern electric cars.
We can only provide this because of the support of Big60Million, E-Car Club and The Heart of England Community Foundation. That funding will run out in about 6 months timer and we are working on ideas to bring more funds in. We hope, for example, that a business might be happy to be associated with this much needed beneficial service. At the present rate of demand we need only £2,500 to run the project for a whole year.
